"Never Been There, Never Done That" Summer Adventure List
Hello Creative Friends,
I recently listened to a new episode, ‘5 Fun Ideas to Shake Up Your Life & Get out of a Rut’ on the Mel Robbins Podcast, and it was the most perfect timing. I had already been thinking a lot about how much I benefit from breaks in my routine. Over the weekend, I tried a new yoga class with a friend and I shared with her how wellness retreats are a much-needed reset for me. The habits I pick up at these retreats often become part of my lifestyle, and their benefits last for weeks, even months. Unfortunately, I don’t have the time or money to attend wellness retreats all the time.
My friend shared how she has been creating mini getaways. She recently set aside special time to check out a new gourmet coffee shop which had delicious coffee, and then wandered through a new bookstore in town. We talked about how we could act like tourists in our own backyard and reap the benefits.
These small changes might be the mini resets I need right now. It’s amazing how simply doing something different can refresh our routines. I recommend listening to the podcast episode if you have the time and interest. It inspired me to create a "Never Been There, Never Done That" Summer Adventure List, and I hope you'll join me in making one too!
I love my everyday life, but definitely crave new experiences and love the anticipation of a planned event. I have started to make a list of places and activities that will nurture my health, wellness, and creativity, in the area where I live. According to Mel, just planning an outing can boost your mood and energy. My first outing was to visit a local artist's gallery. I knew her work from various shops, but I'd never been to her gallery, which has a beautiful rural setting. It was wonderful to see her big canvases, her creative space, and her new pieces. We had a long chat about various art things, and I left feeling very fulfilled. Why had I never gone there before?! And how simple and uncluttered my studio would be if I created with only acrylic paint like she did!
I'm planning on putting together a portable mixed media art kit and painting in a local park or by the river. I considered saying ‘yes’ to the next three invitations I receive but am hesitant about this idea. I think it is important that we focus on activities that promote self-care and foster creativity.
If you decide to join me and create a "Never Been There, Never Done That" Summer Adventure List, please consider sharing it in our Creative Delight Studio Facebook group. Tag me if you share it on social media or reply to this email with your ideas. Let’s inspire each other with our adventures, whether it’s visiting a new farm stand, stopping at an interesting shop, or trying something new like attending a local art class.
Looking forward to hearing about your adventures!
